Richard Stainthorp | Wire Sculptures

There are so many things to love about sculpture.  I’m often stunned by the striking realism of the pieces that aim to mimic the human form.  However, its hard to develop a preference, as I’ve also been moved by the surreal abstract sculptures that tug at the imagination and almost demand that you at least attempt to decipher its code, or even write your own!

Richard Stainthorp does a little bit of both with his amazing wire sculptures. I’m absolutely in love with his ability to manipulate the apparently thick wire with such precision.  Then once you get past the form and material, you’re absolutely baffled by the process. How long does it take? Where does he source his material? Is wire manipulated at high temperatures by hand? All questions I’ll include in my email to sir Stanton. In the meantime, enjoy some selects.
