Alejandro Duran is a Brooklyn based artist who came up with the idea to collect garbage that washed up onto the beaches of Sian Ka’an during his stay there. Sian Ka’an is a UNESCO tropical nature reserve along Mexico’s Carribean coastline with oceanic currents so bizarre that trash from all around the world washes up on its shores.
Alejandro has collected trash from over 50 countries on 6 continents, and organizes them by color to create breath taking images. Whether he randomly scatters to give the appearing of being washed up naturally, or organizing them to tell a story, this piece gives a little insight (in my opinion) to a world of garbage and waste floating around our oceans.
